Two shows, one week apart, and the same subject in most of our conversations: staffing.
At NSH in San Antonio (Sept 26–27) and CAP26 at the Wynn Las Vegas (Oct 3–6), we talked with lab teams from across the country. The details changed from lab to lab. The core problem did not. Case volume keeps growing, and the teams handling it are not growing at the same rate.
Many of the people we spoke with are covering open positions, training new staff and holding turnaround times steady, all at once. Adding headcount is slow and expensive, and for many labs it is not an option at all.
The question under almost every conversation was the same: how does a lab take on more work without adding cost or people?
That question is the reason FormaPath exists. We build automation that brings standardization and added capacity to the lab, so the team you have can do more of the work that needs them.
nToto automates small-biopsy grossing. Specimen jars arrive exactly as they do today. AI vision identifies the tissue type and counts each piece, a robotic arm transfers the tissue into standard cassettes, and every specimen leaves with a digital record of how it was prepared.
The result is the same preparation on every specimen and every shift, and hours returned to the team.
We also brought AdiPress, our automated compressive filtration device for lymph node recovery. It gives labs a consistent way to recover lymph nodes from fatty tissue, whoever is at the bench.
Over the next few weeks, we will walk through how nToto works one step at a time, and what a digital prep record changes for a lab. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth at both shows.
